Mailing stuff to Kelsi

Welcome to Kelsi's missionary blog! I, Kelsi's dad, having been a parent of a goodly daughter, will be posting her letters here.  She entered the MTC on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

You may be wondering how to mail stuff to Kelsi.  I will probably forget myself, so I'm adding this blog entry so I can always look it up.  It's a little tricky, so here it goes.

A great way to send a real letter to Kelsi for free is through http://dearelder.com.  You type a message, and they send it to her via the "pouch" system.  This lets Kelsi read the letter at a time other than her 1-hour weekly email time.  Specify "Mexico Tuxtla Gutierrez Mission".

Keep in mind that she only has an hour per week on the computer, so she won't always be able to reply with as long a response as she might like.

Pouch mail:

You can send postcards or 1-page letters to Salt Lake City via USPS (using a normal stamp), and they will be sent to Mexico the Friday after they arrive.  The 1-page letters shouldn't be on wimpy notebook paper, cannot contain photographs, and must following these instructions:

• Write your letter on one side of the paper.
• Fold the letter into thirds, with the writing on the inside (Fold the bottom up a third, and then the top down to what is now the bottom).
• Put two pieces of tape along the long edge, 1 inch from each edge.  Do not seal the two ends.
• Write your name and return address in the upper-left corner, 1st class stamp in the upper-right corner, and in the middle put the following address:

Postage for a letter is $1.15 (up to 1 oz.); $1.72 (2 oz.); $2.29 (3 oz.); $2.86 (3.5 oz., which is the maximum allowed).

You can also mail packages, but keep in mind that packages often don't arrive, or can require custom duties (taxes) that cost more than then contents are worth.  The phone number may also be needed by private carriers (DHL, FedEx, UPS).  But if you know what you're doing, you can mail packages to:
